History

Since the 1980s, many psychologists have devoted to the movement of indigenous psychology over the world. In 2010, indigenous and cultural psychologists in Asia established the Asian Association of Indigenous and Cultural Psychology, which includes scholars from Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, China and USA.

AAICP was founded in July 2010 in a general meeting in The First Conference of Indigenous and Cultural Psychology at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The … participants along with the scientific committee of the conference declared the formation of the association and elected Kwang Kuo-Hwang as its first president.

The basic governance of AAICP consisted … council and committee. The activities of the association at its early days were to spread the indigenous movement and establishing research centres in various countries. AAICP also held conference on indigenous and cultural psychology every two years.
